Monte-Carlo Beach

The Monte-Carlo Beach is a  legend of the 1930s, a little oasis of peace and care-free fantasy where the glamour of the Roaring Twenties and the streamlined modernity of Art Déco subtly combine. This establishment was given a makeover by architect and designer India Mahdavi in 2009 and is undoubtedly one of the Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer’s most highly prized gems.

A legend born and reborn

Inviting summer holidaymakers to savor the delights of dips in the sea and to relax into the Riviera’s gentle pace of life: These were the ambitions René Léon, administrator of the Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, had in mind when he entrusted Roger Séassal with the task of creating a seaside hotel in 1928. The architect took him at his word, building a luxury hotel in a Californian villa style featuring understated proportions and elegant lines that hugged the generous natural curves of the rocky promontory. It offers breath-taking views over the Med. As soon as it opened, the Monte-Carlo Beach became a firm favorite with the burgeoning intellectual and cultural elite. Its success owes much to the vivacious American gossip columnist Elsa Maxwell, a true socialite with plenty of connections who was tasked with providing an early kind of PR service. The legend is born… Inspired by her respect for this spectacular ode to the Mediterranean founded 68 years earlier, famous designer India Mahdavi invested in the Monte-Carlo Beach in 2009 to revive the glamour and opulence of yesteryear, infusing the place with a stylish, timeless sense of romance that remained loyal to the spirit of the Riviera and the values of the dolce vita.

Eat well, live well, feel good

The hotel’s restaurant is called the Elsa in tribute to the woman who so profoundly influenced the history of the Monte-Carlo Beach. Driven forward by the talent and creativity of Michelin-starred head chef Paolo Sari, the Elsa is the Côte d’Azur’s first 100% organic Michelin-starred restaurant, and it has Ecocert certification. Its menu features authentic, seasonal dishesmade using locally sourced ingredients. Chef Sari makes sure to keep things varied and the establishment is also happy to cater for special dietary requirements. At La Pizzeria, tuck into delicious wood-fired pizza as you contemplate the ocean. At La Vigie, savor a range of exquisite fresh seafood. You may prefer to head over to Le Deck to soak in its trendy feel and Mediterranean brasserie style. Today, the 100% organic philosophy initiated by head chef Sari in Elsa’s kitchen has become a way of life for the entire Monte-Carlo Beach, from its foundations to its rooftops. A green and passionately eco-friendly policy that promotes sustainable tourism, earning it the highly sought-after Green Globe certification in 2014.
