International Monte-Carlo Circus Festival


The International Monte-Carlo Circus Festival was created in 1974 by H.S.H. Prince Rainier III. Held in Monte-Carlo every January, it has since become the biggest and most prestigious circus event in the world.

Since 1974, the International Monte-Carlo Circus Festival has welcomed selected troupes from all over the world. All continents are represented in this event, which has climbed the ladder of circus arts events to become a leading event acclaimed by thousands of circus lovers and professionals of all ages.



The greatest circus artists come to Monaco 

The amazing shows that will be held for 10 days at the Chapiteau de l’Espace Fontvieille marquee will take your breath away. Acrobats, animal trainers, trapeze artists, clowns have all contributed to the Festival’s fame and continue to inspire young and old alike year after year.


The highest honour: “The Golden Clown” 

The International Monte-Carlo Circus Festival also gives awards to exceptional circus artists. The most prestigious award is “The Golden Clown” award, truly the highest honour in the circus arts world. Anatoliy Zalevskiy from the la China National Acrobatic Troupe, the Caselly family and Alexis Grüss are just some of the great circus artists who have received this award over the years.


The New Generation 

The Golden Clown may reward experienced artists from all over the world, but the new generation is also important. In 2012, H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie and her oldest daughter and jury president Pauline Ducruet, created the New Generation Festival, a new International festival for up and coming artists. The only festival in the world that gives young artists the opportunity to perform in a real circus, providing hope for a future generation of circus professionals.
