Under the Presidency of His Serene Highness the Sovereign Prince Albert II of Monaco and Her Royal Highness the Princess of Hanover, the Rose Ball in aid of the Fondation Princesse Grace will take place in the Salle des Étoiles on 24 March 2012.

SWINGING LONDON – SWINGING ROSE, TO REVIVE THE 1960′s

“Swinging London” is a term applied to the cultural scene that flourished in London in the 1960s. It was a period of optimism and hedonism after the austere and dark post-war years.

 The origin of “Swinging London” dates back to the April 1966 issue of Time Magazine which described the English capital as   the “Swinging City”. 
 

THE SPORTING MONTE-CARLO REVISITS LONDON

Pete DohertyOn arrival, guests will discover a real metamorphosis of the lobby in the Sporting Monte-Carlo, thanks to a hug pop-up representing symbolic buildings in the British capital. They will enter via the stage, transformed into an English pub, “The Swinging London“. A real movie-set recalling London’s most typical features : the brick walls of a rehabilitated factory, wood-panelling and a beer bar… with its clients and bands.

A smart barman will set a lively tone and present the bands. Clients relax and play darts in an atmosphere where different worlds rub shoulders.
The room will be a kaleidoscope of striking images, colorful and graphic, evoking the “Swinging London” of both yesterday and today.
The tables will be laid with a specially designed fabric with a map of London, taking up images of the buildings glimpsed in the lobby.
Roses – English, of course – and other flowers reminiscent of the colorful flowerbeds of English gardens will be placed in shoppings bags decorated with the same design as the tablecloths.

LONDON BECAME THE CAPITAL OF ALL THINGS COOL: FASHION, MUSIC, CULTURE, FILMS

Everywhere, this phenomenon took over all aspects of creativity. Swinging London was born, setting the pace for the rest of England and, indeed, the whole world. 
Everyone went there for the boutiques, clubs, bars and art galleries. So many now-legendary bands were founded during that decade including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Kinks and Pink Floyd. To pay tribute to them, the Sporting Monte-Carlo will host artists from the new generation inspired by their elders : Miles Kane, Peter Doherty, Imelda May, The Hype and Mark Ronson !

It was also at this period that Mary Quant, the high priestess of fashion, launched the mini skirt which became a fashion hit all over the world.

Carnaby Street became the epicentre of this cultural revolution. Trendsetting top models such as Twiggy were big names. Men wore their hair long and sported flower-power shirts. Women discovered liberation.

A generation emerged… a new way of life as well as a new way to take on the world. That decade liberated and moulded the modern attitudes we have inherited.
