A new fashion year with Promenade Monte-Carlo Shopping

It’s a new start with a fresh focus. New year, new resolutions, new look.

Time to pack away the shimmer and shine of Christmas, reach for the green juice and detox body, mind and wardrobe.

Although the resort collections (sometimes referred to as cruise, pre-Spring or even just Spring) have already been on the shop floors since November, it’s these collections, hanging around until May, that offers the first glimpse of the sunnier months ahead. It’s an intellectual collection mixing summer and winter clothing, exactly what you want in the depths of January, buying ahead as well as wearing now.

Designers are said to feel it their freer collection, less trend and statement led, more for the discerning fashionista. The very essence of the collection was founded on status, aimed at the jet set escaping the winter weather to bask in the beams of the Sandy Lanes sun.

Chanel went all Grecian goddess with their resort collection with a cleansing palette of cream, white and oyster pink accented by gold highlights; Dior had a more American South West feel (think elegant Arizona and high end attire for the canyons of Utah), while Valentino and Prada offered that most comfortable of trends: glam leisure (Prada’s techy trainers are on my most wanted list).

A trench coat seems to be the spring coat to buy with a shiny blue-green one by Sonia Rykiel, a sumptuous brown leather one at Louis Vuitton and a beautiful balance of traditional garbadine spliced with floral panels at Alexander McQueen. Go faster racing stripes are leading the way into the summer season and wild flowers bloomed at Gucci.

But do pay close attention to your footwear and no, not your shoes but your socks. They’re having a moment (see Prada, Valentino and Gucci for examples of how to wear). Definitely no holes allowed here.
