Monte-Carlo Society Autumn 2012

Gastronomy comes high on the list of Monaco’s many attractions, with the Monte-Carlo SBM group’s restaurants illustrating this magnificently.

Monaco is, of course, an active player in the great culinary traditions of the French and Italian Rivieras – Auguste Escoffier himself exercised his talents here.

Prince Rainier was fully aware of this heritage and correctly perceived the role that gastronomy could play in making the Principalty even more attractive. In 1987, a dozen years after Alain Ducasse had discovered Mediterranean cuisine, with Roger Vergé in Mougins then in Juan-Les-Pins, the Prince put him in charge of the Hôtel de Paris‘s kitchens and set him a considerable challenge: to invent a Mediterranean gastronomy.

Today Monegasque cuisine has come into its own. Alain Ducasse invite you to discover its flavoursome facets in the following pages, where you will find delicious recipes and advice from sommeliers to help you choose the best wines.

Happy tastings !
