Pino Daniele at the Monte-Carlo Jazz Festival: soft rock from Naples to NYC

For the 7th edition of the Monte-Carlo Jazz Festival, Pino Daniele will be on stage at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo on Wednesday 21 November 2012 at 8:30 pm. Opening act: China Moses.

His unique, crystal clear and penetrating voice will enchant you at the Pino Daniele Monte-Carlo Jazz FestivalMonte-Carlo Jazz Festival.

His self-taught guitar technique in addition to an eclectic musical style that combines rock, soul, funk, salsa, samba and jazz and that is also inspired by music from Naples and the Middle-East, all characterise Pino Daniele, whose real name is Giuseppe Daniele.

But it’s also important to mention his background as an inspired musician from a poor family and that his music  reflects his strong social and political commitments. Even after 35 years of making music and almost as many albums, he still has much to say.

This is how in the 60s, 70s and 80s, this musician from Naples invented a new language.

Inspired by melodies from southern Italy, he combined this with his passion for Elvis’s rock-n-roll and Louis Armstrong’s jazz, touching on the American dream and inventing a new ‘soft rock’ sound that is uniquely his own.

This is the story of a shared passion and a lucky encounter between the singer China Moses and the pianist Raphaël Lemonnier who decide, after hearing a song on the car radio, to organise a concert as a tribute to the blues legend Dinah Washington, a star in the 50s and 60s.
