The Sporting Monte-Carlo is 40 years old!

The Sporting Monte-Carlo celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. That’s 40 years of one-of-a-kind shows and an exceptional line-up of stars such as Rihanna, Mika, Tina Turner, Alicia Keys, Céline Dion, Frank Sinatra and so many more extraordinary artists.

The Sporting Monte Carlo's 40-year anniversaryInaugurated in 1974, the Sporting Monte-Carlo is 40 years old!

The idea of a new Sporting d’Eté had been taking hold in the minds of the directors at the Société des Bains de Mer since 1966. The artificial peninsula taken back from the sea was built eight years later. It hosted a building of incredible architectural daring: the new Sporting d’Eté.

The Salle des Etoiles is the most fascinating performance hall in Europe!

In the Sporting Monte-Carlo, the aptly named Salle des Etoiles (the Hall of Stars), would soon welcome the world’s greatest stars to perform in collaboration with the stars up above, visible through the extravagant retractable roof (1000 m² and 180 tonnes: a world record). Three retractable basins ensure water features enhance the hall’s interior. The Salle des Etoiles offers amazing shows that showcase Monaco’s magic and prestige.

Don’t miss Jimmy’z!

The seasonal complex also unveiled a new nightspot, Jimmy’z. Once again, its architecture is breathtaking. The establishment’s opening roof and its completely retractable windows overlooking an idyllic lagoon transport its visitors into a dreamlike setting in which they can’t tell if they’re inside or under the night’s sky.

A long and promising career!

The inauguration of the new Sporting took place on 22 June 1974. Duly inaugurated with, as a prestigious godmother, the one and only Josephine Baker, the Sporting began its long and illustrious career: the Salle des Palmiers became the summer Mecca for big players at the Casino de Monte-Carlo and the Salle des Etoiles became the exceptional venue for great Monaco shows such as the legendary Rose Ball, the Red Cross Gala and the Monte-Carlo Sporting Summer Festival. Forty years on, Jimmy’z, remains a firm favourite for clubbers from all over the world.

The successor of a 1930s summer establishment, a witness to the boldness of the 1970s and a hotspot for culture and nightlife in the 21st century, the Sporting is not just a legend, it is a living legend.

Exceptional soirées and a multitude of surprises are on the agenda for the Sporting Monte-Carlo‘s 40th anniversary.
