Pianist Martin Helmchen will perform with the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra on Sunday, May 10, at 6:00 PM at the Rainier III Auditorium, playing works by Weber, Mendelssohn, and Schumann under the direction of Thomas Hengelbrock.
He was an artist-in-residence in Monaco during the 2021–2022 season and performs regularly at the Auditorium Rainier III. A distinguished virtuoso possessed of an extraordinarily natural playing style, the pianist has received numerous international accolades. Notably, he has performed under the direction of Herbert Blomstedt, Manfred Honeck, Kazuki Yamada, Jakub Hrůša, Vladimir Jurowski, Andris Nelsons, Christoph von Dohnányi, Andrew Manze, Klaus Mäkelä, Paavo Järvi, Sakari Oramo, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Michael Sanderling, and David Zinman.

In 2009 with Yakov Kreizberg, who was a great friend and mentor to me.

Your three favorite places in Monaco ?
The Salle Garnier at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Café Milano (for all the most interesting conversations with Didier de Cottignies), and the Fairmont Hotel terrace for the restaurant.

On stage !
If Munich were a piece of music ?
Debussy's Feux d'Artifice.
What surprises you the most about Monaco ?
The quiet that reigns in certain streets of the historic center.
What was your last happy experience in Monaco ?
To meet the wonderful Ton Koopman and play Mozart with him.
Where you can relax undisturbed ?
In my dressing room at the Auditorium equipped with an excellent piano where I often shut myself away until late at night to rehearse in peace and without being disturbed.
