The renowned singer, composer and bass player artist grew up in a family of musicians near Jerusalem. Although he played the piano until he was 14, it was the bass that caught his attention and he learned to play it with Michael Klinghoffer. Inspired by other great musicians, Avishai Cohen always knew that he wanted to become a jazz musician...
Moving to New York in the 1990s, he was noticed by the famous Chick Corea and signed a recording contract with him. He then formed his trio, the Avishai Cohen Trio, whose composition changed several times.
At the heart of this trio are pianist and composer Elchin Shirinov and drummer Roni Kaspi.
Self-taught, Elchin did not go to music school. Fascinated by the greatest musicians such as Art Tatum, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, or Herbie Hancock, he trained himself through intensive study of their music. He has been working with Avishai for several years, and his influence is reflected in the album Two Roses, released in 2021.
As for Roni Kaspi, met during a fortuitous Facebook live during the confinement, you will find him next to the drums! Passionate about this instrument since he was 7 years old, Roni dedicates himself to interpretation, production and electronic design. The musical connection between these artists is such that Roni will join the Trio on tour in 2020.
Back on stage for the 15th Monte-Carlo Jazz Festival, Avishai Cohen Trio will present new compositions and of course, his great classics!
