From underground to chart hits, from Berlin raves to the world's biggest stages, Paul Kalkbrenner has pursued his path without ever betraying his basic style: powerful and precise, profoundly immersive techno. Born at the dawn of a music revolution, he was 12 when the Berlin Wall came down and he grew up to the rhythm of rave parties. While electronic dance music was sweeping the capital, he began to mix and collect vinyl records. Convinced that DJing was not for him, he decided to devote himself to the production and live performance of his own tracks. While the rise of Paul Kalkbrenner coincided with the golden age or the Berlin techno scene, and his beginnings were associated with the Bpitch Control label, his audience quickly spread beyond the borders of this scene. When he landed the title role in the film Berlin Calling, for which he wrote the soundtrack, he had already released the albums Superimpose, Zeit, Self and won over an international fan base. His transcendent live performances allowed him to break through barriers, taking him to perform at festivals usually reserved for rock stars. After founding his own label in 2009, then signing with Columbia Records in 2015, he resumed his musical independence in 2022.
