A History of Jazz in Film
“We will experience the diverse currents that have shaped film music.
From Cabin in the Sky by Vincente Minnelli with Louis Armstrong, to the tribute to Dexter Gordon in Autour de minuit by Bertrand Tavernier, via the contributions of Elmer Bernstein (The Man with the Golden Arm by Otto Preminger), Duke Ellington (Anatomy of a Murder by Otto Preminger), Lalo Schifrin (Bullitt by Peter Yates), Martial Solal (Breathless by Jean-Luc Godard), and Miles Davis (Elevator to the Gallows by Louis Malle).
Not to mention the experiences of John Cassavetes with Charles Mingus (Shadows), Clint Eastwood with Charlie Parker (Bird), and the great documentaries: Jazz on a Summer’s Day, Straight No Chaser (on Thelonious Monk), and Let’s Get Lost (on Chet Baker).” Thierry Jousse
