Monaco as seen by David Hallyday

Updated on January 07, 2026

A 200% Hallyday tribute show is set to take place at the Salle des Princes at the Grimaldi Forum on March 20. Currently on tour with Requiem pour un fou (Requiem for a Madman), David, the only son of Johnny Hallyday, is reimagining his father’s iconic songs while inserting his own material. He is performing this two-hour concert at major venues across France, Belgium, and Switzerland, reigniting the passion. Johnny performed many times on the Salle des Étoiles Monte-Carlo, which felt like a second home. Today, his son is strengthening his connections to the Principality, sharing some personal reflections with us.

When was the first time you came to Monaco?

David Hallyday: It was in 1989, at the World Music Awards held in the Salle des Étoiles at Sporting Monte-Carlo, I performed my single "High." It was my very first hit.

Monaco in three words?

David Hallyday: Sportiness, security, events.

Your three favourite spots in Monaco?

David Hallyday: There are more than three! I like the Japanese Garden, Marco restaurant, Coya Monte-Carlo, Pavyllon Monte-Carlo, and the padel courts at Monte-Carlo Beach.

Monaco on stage or in a swimsuit?

David Hallyday: In relaxed mode so that I can stroll everywhere across the city.

If Monaco were a song?

David Hallyday: Without hesitation: Le Sud by Nino Ferrer.

What surprises you most about Monaco?

David Hallyday: The melting pot that unites Monegasques, residents from more than 140 nationalities, regulars, and occasional visitors to the Principality. Everyone coexists with respect and contentment, including the employees who appear to think, “It's good to work here.”

And what was your last happy moment in Monaco?

David Hallyday: I’m always happy here when my family is nearby! Monaco is one of the few places where I can truly recharge my batteries. Additionally, I observe that the country has gained new momentum, both culturally and in urban development.

Your favourite spot?

David Hallyday: The Larvotto, which has been particularly rejuvenated.

Where can you relax in Monaco without being bothered?

David Hallyday: No one is bothered in Monaco!
