Since 1856, the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra has combined the great classical repertoire with the rediscovery of rarely performed works, contemporary creations, and opera and dance productions. The 2026–2027 season continues this tradition with a generous programme designed to appeal both to music lovers and to the simply curious: major symphonic works, exceptional recitals, chamber music, musical Happy Hours and events for families.
This season holds particular significance. The OPMC is celebrating its 170th anniversary and welcomes Nathalie Stutzmann as Artistic and Music Director, succeeding Kazuki Yamada after ten seasons. A conductor on the world’s greatest stages and Music Director of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, she brings extensive experience in both the symphonic repertoire and opera. As the season was planned before she took up her position, her artistic imprint will be fully revealed from 2027–2028 onwards. Nevertheless, two concerts will offer an initial glimpse of her musical vision this season.
Nathalie Stutzmann: two highly anticipated appearances :
5 December 2026: Wagner and Brahms
For her first appearance of the season at the helm of the OPMC, Nathalie Stutzmann reunites with soprano Anja Kampe for a programme of intense dramatic power. Wagner’s overture to Rienzi and the Prelude and Liebestod from Tristan und Isolde are followed by Brahms’s First Symphony. An evening that brings together lyrical breadth, orchestral tension and symphonic architecture.
14 May 2027: Mozart and Bruckner
The second concert pairs the luminous Fifth Violin Concerto by Mozart, performed by Johan Dalene, with the grandeur of Bruckner’s Fourth Symphony, the “Romantic”. This contrast promises to shed light on the conductor’s attention to balance, musical lines and the orchestra’s breathing — a major milestone in her first season in Monaco.

13 September 2026: A spectacular French opening
Bertrand de Billy and Truls Mørk open the season with Dutilleux’s Tout un monde lointain… and the suites from Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé: sumptuous colours and dazzling orchestral virtuosity take centre stage.
26 September 2026: Massenet’s Roma
The tragic opera first performed in Monte-Carlo in 1912 returns in concert version, conducted by Diego Ceretta and featuring Rachel Willis-Sørensen, Jean-François Borras and the Radio France Choir. This co-production with the Palazzetto Bru Zane brings a precious chapter of the Principality’s musical heritage back into the spotlight.
Beethoven, two centuries on
To mark the bicentenary of the composer’s death in 2027, several concerts are scheduled, including Piano Concertos Nos. 4, 2 and 3, as well as rarer works and numerous chamber music echoes. An invitation to hear afresh a body of work we think we know so well.
Mao Fujita, artist in residence
The Japanese pianist, acclaimed for the refinement of his playing, will perform a solo recital on 6 December, join the orchestra on 7 February for Prokofiev’s Third Piano Concerto, and reunite with the OPMC musicians on 18 February. Three different formats offering an opportunity to discover a rising musical personality.
Unmissable performances
Featuring violinist Daniel Lozakovich, Charles Dutoit conducts Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique and Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D major on 9 May. On 20 June, Elīna Garanča and Christian Van Horn lend their voices to Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle. The recital programme will also feature Grigory Sokolov, Emmanuel Ax, Arcadi Volodos, Janine Jansen with Alexandre Kantorow, and András Schiff.
