Marlow, a year between the Mediterranean and the Thames

Updated on January 08, 2026

Marlow, the "so British" restaurant of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, officially opened on 16 January 2024. Located in the heart of Mareterra, the new district reclaimed from the sea, this "all-day dining" venue offers a menu that blends Mediterranean and English flavours to suit all tastes.

A British haven in the heart of Monaco

The British, holding the fourth largest nationality group in Monaco with over 2,800 residents, naturally frequent this spot. The venue, designed by Parisian designer Hugo Toro as a link between the Thames and the Monegasque coast, is also popular among the local residents, workers, and visitors. "We have a loyal clientele: some visit multiple times daily for coffee, lunch, or drinks," says Roxanne Laurens, the restaurant manager. During summer, the influx of tourists complements the existing local crowd. At lunchtime, most customers are professionals, while in the evening and on weekends, the atmosphere shifts to being more family-centric.

"This blend is very popular: you get the British spirit, but in a lighter, more elegant version."

British icons reimagined with a Mediterranean twist

Marlow's menu features classic English dishes like fish and chips, Beef Wellington, the Eton Mess dessert, and the Coronation salad made for Queen Elizabeth's coronation. It also offers salads, light fish options, and other fresh, Mediterranean-inspired dishes.

Since your arrival this summer as a manager, what new energy have you introduced to the organisation?

Roxanne Laurens : The aim is to make Marlow feel lively, with constant activity. I've updated the playlists, refreshed the atmosphere, introduced live music with performers moving around, and made it a dog-friendly venue for owners and their pets. Our goal is for customers to establish their routines here at any time of day.

What challenges do you expect in the upcoming months?

Roxanne Laurens : Our main goal is to keep the venue operational year-round, which is quite challenging. However, the outlook has been very positive since the beginning of the school year.

In brief, how would you describe the essence of Marlow?

Roxanne Laurens : It's a lively and sophisticated spot, blending British and Mediterranean influences. It's a place where you can relax, whether you're having a morning coffee, a business lunch, or enjoying a sunset cocktail. Marlow embodies the Monegasque art of living: refined yet always relaxed.
