From local phenomenon to international star, Mariza went from one status to another in the blink of an eye.
The story begins with her first album, Fado em Mim (2001), which quickly led to fame and international presence, notably at the Quebec City Summer Festival, where she received the event's first prize (best performance). Fado em Mim is not only an exciting album, but also presents a young singer with a wonderful voice and an amazing artistic personality.
Mariza's career is flourishing with multi-platinum album releases and appearances on some of the world's most important stages: Paris' Olympia, London's Royal Festival Hall, Sydney Opera House, New York's Carnegie Hall and Los Angeles' Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Except for Amália Rodrigues, no other Portuguese artist has had such an international career, with rave reviews and countless awards and distinctions. She surrounds herself with the greatest names and collaborates with Gilberto Gil, Lenny Kravitz, Sting, Tito Paris, Carlos do Carmo and Rui Veloso... And her repertoire, although firmly rooted in classical and contemporary fado, occasionally expands to include Cape Verdean mornas, Brazilian and Spanish classics or any other theme that is close to her heart.
Last year, Mariza celebrated her twentieth anniversary and the centenary of the late Queen of Fado, Amália Rodrigues, with the album Mariza Sings Amália.
