The Grand Prix Historique de Monaco, a tribute to motorsport

Organised by the Automobile Club de Monaco, the Grand Prix Historique de Monaco reflects the Principality’s passion for motorsport. The first edition was created in 1997 to mark the 700th anniversary of the Monaco Princely Dynasty. The event returned for the new millennium in 2000, before becoming a regular fixture held every two years. At the beginning, around thirty racing cars were presented. Today, more than 200 take part in each edition, delighting enthusiasts and collectors alike. This is proof of the growing importance of the Grand Prix Historique de Monaco over the years in the world of motor racing.

A biennial event, the Grand Prix Historique de Monaco is generally held two weeks before the famous Grand Prix de Monaco. The participating cars are all collectors’ pieces dating from the pre-war period to the 1980s, and they have all competed in international races. Ferrari, Maserati, Bugatti, Lotus, Matra... on the starting grid of the Grand Prix Historique de Monaco, the biggest names in the discipline come together in an exceptional retrospective. Far more than a static display, each car is there to compete in its category race at the Grand Prix Historique de Monaco. Pre-war voiturettes, front-engined Grand Prix cars, rear-engined Grand Prix cars, sports cars, F1, F2... they are divided into 7 or 8 series, themselves split into classes according to year of manufacture and technical characteristics (engine type, etc.). A remarkable diversity that makes the Grand Prix Historique de Monaco a spectacular show.
